It is common for men over the age of 50 to experience prostate trouble. However, men ages 30-50 are more prone to prostate infection. Whatever the trouble is, prostate symptoms will usually include problems with urination.
A prostate infection affects urination because of the location of the prostate. It is a walnut-sized gland found below the bladder. It surrounds part of the urethra and any enlargement on its size causes it to squeeze the urethra producing urinary problems. The usual prostate symptoms that are urinary in nature are hesitancy, urge to urinate at night, inability to empty the bladder, and pain. Other possible prostate symptoms are fever, chills, blood in the urine or semen, and pain during orgasm.
Herbal and other natural therapies can relieve discomfort from a prostate infection. It has been said that saw palmetto with nettle may treat inflammation and swelling in cases of prostate infection. Flaxseed oil is another remedy for prostate symptoms that involve inflammation. Other supplements that can relieve prostate symptoms are certain amino acids taken each morning before having breakfast. However, in cases when prostate infection has caused urine or semen to appear with blood in it, immediate medical treatment is necessary.
When prostate infection does strike, the patient will be put on a trial of antibiotics to determine what kind of infection is involved. A good response to the therapeutic trial will indicate a continued treatment that could last up to several months. If antibiotics do not work, the patient will be evaluated for non-bacterial prostatitis, which may require a treatment that involves anti-inflammatory drugs, alpha-blocking agents, and other possible therapies that will deal with the symptoms of the disease.
For a recurring prostate infection, it is possible that the antibiotics used to treat it were not able to completely destroy the bacteria that were causing it. This may be difficult to treat, so the doctor will prescribe something to alleviate the discomfort from the prostate infection. A prostate infection may cause prostate-specific antigen levels to rise, but it is not connected in any way to prostate cancer.
The best way to avoid a prostate infection is to keep the prostate healthy. Caffeine and alcohol are to be avoided. Do not consume a lot of liquids at night time. Eat a lot of soya products, which contain the curative substances isoflavones. Zinc and Vitamin E are the other nutrients that can protect from prostate infection.
As soon as prostate symptoms appear, consult a doctor for testing and possible treatment methods. A prostate infection may range from mild to serious. A professional assessment is undoubtedly necessary for its treatment.
